Where found

Dry forest on poorly drained soils. Wet heath, often at the margins of open forest adjoining swamps or along streams. Ranges.

subsp. acutifolia: Mainley ranges south of Wollongong and in Morton National Park.

subsp. deanei: Mainly ranges in Wollemi National Park and Kanagra Boyd National Park.

Notes

Shrub to 1.5 m high. Branchlets slightly angled, hairless, moderately covered with minute warts. Leaves strongly aromatic when rubbed, opposite each other, crowded, 0.2–1.2 cm long, 0.5–2 mm wide, almost cylindrical, upper surface smooth, lower surface prominently glandular-warty, tips pointed to blunt, margins entire and thick. Flowers white to bright pink, with 4 petals each 4–5 mm long, falling early. Petals overlapping each other in bud. 8 stamens. Flowers in 1–3 flowered clusters. Flowers Winter to Summer.

Leaves often arched or straight, 0.5–1.2 cm long, about 1 mm wide, margins entire but toothed with minute teeth along the entire length, lower surface prominently glandular-warty

subsp. deanei:  Tips of leaves blunt; stems sparsely covered with minute warts. Leaves straight, 0.2–1 cm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, margins toothed with minute teeth, especially towards the tips, lower surface slightly glandular warty.
