Where found

A range of habitats, mostly dry forest, woodland, and grassy areas. Widespread.

Notes

Prostrate or sprawling shrub to 0.5 m tall, occasionally erect, to 1.3 m tall. Stems cylindrical, sparsely to moderately hairy. Leaves alternating along the stems, elliptical to round, 0.2-0.7 cm long, 2-5 mm wide, upper surface darker than the lower surface, margins curved down, bases often more or less cordate. Leaf stalks less than 1 mm long, without a joint. Flowers 6-10 mm long, pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, Front of standard petal yellow with a red flare, back brown to dark red, wings red and purplish, sometimes yellowish at the tips, keel dark red to purplish. flowers single. Flowers Spring to Summer.
