Where found

Damp areas in forest, woodland, and grassy areas. Widespread. Uncommon on the coast and ranges.

Notes

Perennial grass-like herb to 0.75 m tall, the leaves annual, growing each year from an underground bulb.  Leaves fleshy, hollow, clustered at the base of the plant, 4.5-48 cm long, 2-8 mm wide, hairless, channelled or almost cylindrical. Flowers often fragrant.  Flowers yellow, with 6 'petals', each 9-22 mm long, in an interrupted cluster of up to 50 flowers up the stem. It has straight anthers that point upwards, partially obscured by the filament hairs. Filaments of all six stamens are the same length, 8-9 mm long.  Flowers Spring to Autumn.
