Where found

Garden escape. North from Shellharbour and the Sydney area. Occasionally in the ranges west of Sydney.

In its natural habitat, it grows mostly along watercourses, north from Moree and Grafton.

Notes

Introduced shrub or small tree to 8 m high. Bark dark, furrowed, branches generally weeping. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 3–7 cm long, 3–7 mm wide, one side straighter than the other, lateral veins obscure, tips pointed. Flower spikes 40–100 mm long, 30–60 mm in diameter. Individual flowers with 5 petals. Flowers spring to early summer, also sporadically throughout the year.

Native to north of the area covered by this key.
