Notes

Introduced shrub to 3 m high. Leaf tips somewhat sharp. Branchlets finely rough, soon hairless. Leaves slightly aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 0.7–1.2 cm long, about 1 mm wide, hairless or margins sometimes with tiny hairs. Flowers white to mid-pink, sometimes purplish in bud, with 5 petals each about 5 mm long overall, appearing to be 2–3 mm long and wide. 5 stamens that produce pollen and 5 shorter stamens that do not produce pollen. Flowers crowded at the base of the upper leaves. Flowers Jul.–Oct.
