Where found

Forest, woodland, roadsides and disturbed areas. A weed of lawns and gardens. Widespread. Not common on the coast south of the Sydney area.

Notes

Annual or perennial herb to 0.30 m high. Flower stalk 0–0.1 m long, cottony hairy. Leaves basal, forming a rosette, 4-25 cm long, 10–90 mm wide, margins entire or toothed; upper surface dark or lime green, hairy or nearly hairless, lower surface white woolly. Flower heads with 10–20 yellow 'petals' 4–11 mm long, and yellow centres 8-20 mm in diameter. Flower heads below the ‘petals’ hemispherical. 'Seeds' 2.0–2.8 mm long, brown to black, strongly curved, hairy on the convex outer face. Flowers throughout the year, probably in response to rain, but most commonly in spring.
