Where found

Dry forest, woodland, and grassy areas. Widespread.

Notes

Prostrate or sprawling to erect shrub to 1.5 m tall. Stems with stiff spreading hairs. Leaves alternating up the stems, usually 0.3-0.8 cm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, spirally twisted, tips pointed, often curved, surfaces smooth to warty, usually covered with stiff hairs, or having at least a few stiff hairs near the leaf tips. The outside of the calyx hairless or with a sparse to moderate cover of stiff hairs. Standard petal 5-12 mm long. Flowers pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, yellow with red to purple markings (sometimes faint), in 1-8 flowered clusters. Flowers most of the year.
