Wet or grassy forest. Coast and ranges. Occasionally tablelands.
Notes
Tree to 70 m tall. Bark rough on the lower half of the trunk to over the whole trunk. Rough bark finely fibrous to stringy, grey or grey-brown. Smooth bark above, shedding in long ribbons, often with scribbles. Juvenile stems square in cross section. Juvenile leaves stalkless, opposite each other for many pairs (until the early sapling stage), 5.5-13 cm long, 10-36 mm wide, dull, green, upper and lower surfaces different colours. Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 7.5-19.5 cm long, 12-32 mm wide, glossy, green. Flowers white, with 0 petals. Flower clusters 7-15 flowered. Mature flower buds 6–10 mm long, caps at least as long as the base. Flowers most of the year. Gumnuts 7-12 mm in diameter. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have valves that are not very noticeable.
Sometimes hybridises with Eucalyptus acmenoides.
