Where found

Tall wet forest. North from Nowra. Coast and Southern Highlands north from Nowra. Ranges north from Ulladulla.

Notes

Tree to 50 m tall.  Bark rough on all but the smallest branches or rough on the trunk and branches. Rough bark fibrous-flaky, ('box'), grey, often with whitish patches.  Smooth bark above shedding in long ribbons.  Juvenile stems square in cross section and winged, non-glaucous.  Juvenile leaves opposite each other until the sapling stage, usually stem-clasping, 7-15 cm long, 13-35 mm wide, dull, green, upper and lower surfaces different colours.  Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 10.5-20 cm long, 10-22 mm wide, dull to glossy, green, margins toothed.  Flowers white, with 0 petals.  Flower clusters 7-flowered.  Mature flower buds 4–8 mm long, caps shorter than the base.  Flowers Summer-Autumn.  Gumnuts 4-6 mm in diameter. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have protruding valves or valves that are not very noticeable.
