Where found

Dry forest, woodland, grassy areas, gardens, disturbed areas, roadsides, and moist sites. Widespread. Rare on the Western Slopes and in Kosciuszko National Park.

Notes

Introduced biennial or perennial herb to 0.4 m tall. Lower part of the stem hairy with branched hairs (needs a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see). Leaves in a basal rosette, 2-30 cm long, 5-20 mm wide, hairy to sparsely hairy, margins flat or wavy, toothed to dissected with almost triangular lobes. Flower heads with many yellow ‘petals’ each 3-7 mm long. Flower heads below the ‘petals’ broad cylindrical, 5-12 mm in diameter. Flower buds droop, the stalk straightening when the flower opens. Flower heads single. Flowers most of the year.
