Notes

Emergent perennial herb to 2 m or more high, often shortly rhizomatous. Leaves mostly basal, a few alternating up the stems, 15–60 cm long, to 20 mm wide, linear, surfaces mostly hairy, sometimes hairless, basal sheath 7–16 cm long, tips gradually tapering to a point. Flowers yellow, with 4 'petals', the outer 2 'petals' 10–15 mm long, 7–10 mm wide; the inner 2 'petals' 3-8 mm long, 1-3 mm wide. Flowers in a spike of 10 to about 40-flowers, usually only 2 flowers open at any time. Flowers Dec.–Apr..
