Where found

Roadsides, wasteland, plantations, and rocky areas. Mainly Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, ACT, and the tablelands south from east of the ACT. Occasional elsewhere.

Notes

Introduced annual or biennial herb to 1 m high. Basal leaves to 50 cm long, about 10 mm wide, grass-like, linear, half-sheathing at base, tips pointed. Stem leaves alternating up the stems, tips pointed, bases stem-clasping, the lower stem leaves the same size as the basal leaves, upper leaves to 10 cm long. Flower heads with many yellow 'petals' each about 15-30 mm long, about half as long as the bracts. Flower heads about 6-12 mm in diameter below the ‘petals’. About 8-12 bracts appressed to and surrounding the flower heads, each about 30–60 mm long. Flower heads open only for a short time in the morning. Flowering: Nov.–Apr.
