Description

Rhizome erect, forming a slender trunk to c. 30 cm tall, with persistent stipe bases, scaly at the apex; scales black with irregularly toothed margins. Fronds erect in a spreading tussock. Stipe 10–33 cm long; base black and scaly. Lamina 1-pinnate, 30–50 cm long, 15–25 cm wide, dark green; rachis scaly; apical segment similar in form to the lateral segments but often deeply lobed at the base. Pinnae oblong-lanceolate, 8–14 cm long, 10–12 mm wide; margins toothed to entire; apex attenuate; veins free, forked. Sori extending along the length of the upper branch of a fork; indusium brown with entire margins. 

Distribution

Occurs in a limited area of NE QLD near Cairns and Daintree. Also in Malesia and Melanesia.

Habit and habitat

Terrestrial, usually on hillslopes in moderately low altitude rainforest.
