4.1.3 Frond to rhizome articulation

Fronds with a structural joint at the base of the leaf-stalk (stipe) where it attaches to the rhizome and regularly falling (abscising) and not remaining attached to the stem when dead. Look for joint at base of stipe and also for dead leaves still attached to the stem.
Stipe without a joint, leaves not regularly falling and remaining attached when dead. Look for dead leaves still attached to stem (rhizome).
