Dry forest, woodland, shrubland, and heath. Coast and ranges. Rarely elsewhere.
Shrub to 3 m tall or prostrate. Fleshy seed stalks/arils. Bark smooth. Branchlets angled with prominent ridges, hairless, often glaucous. New shoots often red. 'Leaves' alternating up the stems, 2-13 cm long, 4-30 mm wide, hairless, green, midvein and marginal veins prominent, tips somewhat pointed with a mucro. Flower heads white to pale yellow, globular, 2-8 flowered (easiest seen in late buds), 6-13 mm in diameter, in elongated clusters of 3-8 flower heads. Flowers Winter to Spring.
