Where found

Dry forest, woodland, mallee, shrubland, and grassy areas. Western Slopes mainly west of the Olympic Highway.

Notes

Shrub or tree 0.5–8 m tall. Fleshy seed stalks/arils. 'Leaves' often with a sharp point. Seeds with fleshy yellow to orange arils. Bark rough, finely fissured, dark grey. Branchlets angled at the extremities, soon cylindrical, hairy, resinous. ‘Leaves’ alternating up the stems, 1-12 cm long, 1-15 mm wide, cylindrical to flat in cross section, surfaces hairy when young, becoming hairless, occasionally somewhat glaucous, tips sharp pointed, or blunt with a mucro. 1 marginal gland at the base. Flower heads yellow, globular, 4.5–8 mm in diameter, 5–16-flowered, (easiest seen in late buds), single or in pairs. Flowering: October–January. Pods strongly curved or twisted or coiled 1–2 times, leathery to woody.

Vulnerable Vic. Listed in Flora and Fauna Act, Vic.
