Woodland, grassy areas, herbfields, and swamps, at higher altitudes. ACT. Kosciuszko National Park and west from there.
Perennial herb to 0.61 m tall, hairless. Base of the plant surrounded by the remains of old leaves. New leaves somewhat fleshy. Flower stalks often purplish. Leaves basal, 6–30 cm long (including the 3-10 cm sheathing bases), 1-6 mm wide, tips blunt. Leaves with obvious transverse partitions. Male and female flowers on different plants. Flowers white to cream, pink, or reddish, 1–2.5 mm in diameter, with 5 petals. Flowers in many-flowered clusters. Flowers Summer-Autumn.
