Rainforest and rainforest margins, in regrowth, and near streams. Coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands.
Shrub to tree to 27 m high. Trunks flanged in larger trees. Bark smooth, often blistered or finely wrinkled or fissured. Stems hairless, reddish brown or purplish, lenticels prominent. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, sometimes lemon-scented. Leaves opposite each other, 3–12 cm long, 14–45 mm wide, surfaces hairless, oil dots numerous and obvious, tips blunt to bluntly pointed, and usually notched. Flowers creamy-white, with 4 petals each 5–8 mm long, in few to many-flowered clusters. Flowering: summer-autumn. Fruit fleshy, white, more or less round, mostly 4-lobed.
Rare Vic. Listed in the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act, Vic.
