Shrub to 3 m high. Fruit fleshy. Branchlets hairy with simple hairs, becoming hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.4–0.8 cm long, 2–4 mm wide, hairless, lower surface with 3 central more or less parallel veins, margins entire or fringed with coarse hairs towards the tips. Flowers erect, white, 3-4 mm long, tubular, the tube sparsely hairy to bearded within (may need a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see), with 5 lobes each 1.7–2.1 mm long. Flowers pointing up, in spikes of 2–5 flowers. Flowers spring. Fruit bright red when ripe.
