Forest, woodland, grassy areas, roadsides, disturbed sites and along streams. Coastal. Ranges and the eastern edge of the tablelands north of Nowra.
Introduced upright perennial herb or shrub to 3 m tall, producing numerous stems from a woody rootstock. Stems green, reddish or purplish, sticky hairy when young. Leaves opposite each other, 4-15 cm long, 30-90 mm wide, mostly hairless, margins toothed, tips.pointed. Flower heads 2-8 mm in diameter, bell shaped, with 40-50 white florets with 0 'petals', in crowded clusters. Flowers all year.
