Pastures, gardens, and disturbed sites. Sydney area and the mountains to the west. Occasionally coastal south of Sydney.
Introduced annual herb to 1 m high. Stems hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, 1-15 cm long. 6-60 mm wide, with long stalks, margins entire. Male and female flowers on the same plant. Flowers greenish, with 3 'petals', each 0.5–2 mm long, bracts to 1.2 mm long. Flowers in cylindrical clusters, mostly 5–15 cm long, moderately dense. Flowers Dec.–Apr.
