Garden escape. Forest, woodland, shrubland, disturbed sites, wetland margins, and rocky areas. Coastal. Sydney area. Rarely elsewhere.
Introduced spreading or scrambling perennial herb to 0.25 m tall, forming mats to about 1 m diameter. Stems and leaves fleshy. Stems rounded or 4-angled in cross section, warty. Leaves opposite each other or alternating up the stems, 0.8–2.6 cm long, 5–18 mm wide, bases cordate. Flowers about 15 mm in diameter, pink to purple, with many 'petals', fused for most of their length. Flowers single. Flowers usually open midday to early afternoon. Flowers Summer to Autumn.
