Weed in sandy soils and of rocky sites. Widespread but not common.
Introduced annual herb to 0.3 m high. Plants rough to sticky hairy. Leaves opposite each other, 0.2–0.8 cm long, 2–2.5 mm wide, stalkless, occasionally stalked. Flowers 2.5–5 mm in diameter, with white 5 petals, shorter than the sepals, in open clusters. Flowering: late winter to summer. Seed case oblong- conical, only slightly widened at the base.
