Where found

Dry forest and heath. Coast and ranges north of Moruya.

Notes

Shrub to 3 m high. Bark smooth, with small lenticels, reddish to grey-brown. Branchlets rusty-hairy. Leaves alternating up the stems, mostly 5–8 cm long, 15–20 mm wide, mature leaves white or pale green on the lower surface, margins usually toothed, rarely more or less entire, tips pointed, squared off, or blunt with a mucro. Flower heads 50–150 mm long, of many flowers. Individual flowers pale yellow, buds tinged grey-blue, with 4 'petals' each 20–25 mm long, splitting to the base when the flowers are fully open. Style straight, cream, not remaining on mature cones. Cones 50–150 mm long. Flowering: chiefly March–June. Seeds with one wing.

Natural hybrids with Banksia robur are recorded.
