subsp. angustifolia: Coast and ranges mainly between the Ilawarra Highway and the Kings Highway
subsp. barkeriana: Ranges north from west of Kiama
Shrub to 1 m high. Branchlets hairless, often reddish. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, opposite each other, usually 1.5–3.3 cm long, 1.5–11 mm wide, hairless, often reddish on the lower surface and along the margins, margins toothed, tips pointed. Flowers bright pink to mauve-pink, with 4 petals each 5–10 mm long. Petals overlapping each other in bud, falling early. 8 stamens. Flowers usually in 1–12 flowered clusters. Flowers most of the year.

subsp. angustifolia: Leaves mostly 1.5–3.3 cm long, 1.5–6.5 mm wide, larger leaves with a length:breadth ratio of 4–8:1. Petals 5–10 mm long. Flowers usually in 1–12 flowered clusters. Stalks of individual flowers 5–14 mm long.
subsp. barkeriana: Leaves usually 1.6–3 cm long, 4–11 mm wide, rarely smaller, larger leaves with a length:breadth ratio of 2.5–4:1. Petals 6–8 mm long. Flowers in 3–9 flowered clusters. Stalks of individual flowers 8–23 mm long.
