Dry forest and woodland. Mostly in the Sydney area and Blue Mountains. Ranges as far south as Wadbilliga National Park.
Shrub to 2 m tall, mostly hairless. Stems more or less flat at least when young, more or less hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.3-1.2 cm long, 3-12 mm wide. Flowers 7-12 mm long, pea shaped with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel. Front of standard petal yellow with a red flare, back partly flushed red, wings predominantly but sometimes patchily brownish red, keel pinkish grading to dark purplish red. Flowers Winter to Spring.
