Dry forest, woodland, grassy areas, disturbed sites, and damp areas. Western Slopes, ACT, Kosciuszko National Park, and tablelands. Occasionally elsewhere.
Perennial tufted herb to 0.7 m high with an unbranched rhizome. Leaves at the base of the plant, 8–50 cm long, 1.5–15 mm wide; linear, with a more or less papery sheath at the base. Flowers usually blue or purple with darker veins, occasionally white or pinky mauve, with 6 'petals' 6–10 mm long. Flowers in clusters of 1–3 up the stems. Flowering: spring–summer.
