Damp places in woodland. Sydney area. Occasionally mountains west of Sydney.
Sprawling shrub to about 1 m high. Leaves with sharp points. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 4–8 cm long, 0.5–1.5 mm in diameter, dark green, cylindrical or channelled, lower surface rough. Flower spikes 50–70 mm long, 40–50 mm in diameter. Flowers yellowish green to green, occasionally red, with 5 petals. Stamens 6-11 mm long. Flowers spring and early summer.
