Forest, rainforest gullies and occasionally along streams, and rocky places. Sydney area north of the Harbour, and the mountains to the west of Sydney.
Shrub or small tree to 12 m high. Leaves with sharp tips. Bark papery. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 2–4 cm long, 6–8 mm wide, lower surface paler than the upper surface, midrib prominent, margins often curved down. Flower spikes white to pale cream, usually 30–50 mm long, about 20 mm in diameter. Rachis densely hairy when flowering. Individual flowers with 5 petals. Filaments of the stamens 8–10 mm long. Flowers spring.
