Dry forest, woodland, and shrubland, on heavy clay soils prone to flooding. Tablelands south of Cooma. Western Slopes.
Perennial herb to 0.35 m tall. Stoloniferous. 'Seeds' 1.7–2.5 mm long, hairless to hairy, with 4-8 spines. 'Seeds' stick to clothing. Stems hairless to sparsely hairy with stiff hairs. Leaves mostly at the base of the plant, a few alternating up the stems, 2.5-24 cm long, 1-9 mm wide, hairless, margins usually entire, occasionally with a few teeth. Flower heads 10– about 15 mm in diameter, with 20-42 'petals', white to mauve, sometimes flushed pink beneath, each 2.5–5.5 mm long, and yellow centres. Flower heads single, or in 2-3 flowered open clusters.
Definite identification of all species of Calotis is made by examining the seeds.
