Prostrate mat forming perennial herb with stems to 2 m long. Stems, leaves, and fruit fleshy. Leaves opposite each other, 3.5–10 cm long, 9–15 mm wide, triangular in cross section, glaucous. Flowers pink to purple, white at or near the base, 40–60 mm in diameter, with about 100-150 'petals'. Flowers single. Flowers most of the year. Fruit edible, red to purple, slightly compressed-cylindric to almost oval, weakly 2-angled.
