Woodland, heath, herbfields, grasslands in colder spots, and along streams. ACT and Kosciuszko National Park. Tablelands between Adaminaby and the southern ACT.
Woody-based perennial herb to 0.30 m high, rhizomatous, forming more or less extensive patches. Persistent fibrous leaf bases. Scapes woolly. Leaves basal, forming a rosette, 4.5–18 cm long, 2–8 mm wide, uppper surface green to grey-green, with a thin silvery membranous coating splitting on the undersurface to reveal a short woolly grey to silver tomentum, margins curved or rolled down, bases with a broad sheath. Flower heads 30–60 mm in diameter overall, with many 'petals', white, tipped mauve on the underside, and yellow centres. Flowers December to February.
