Forest and heath. Mainly coast and ranges from Jervis Bay to Wadbilliga National Park. Occasionally elsewhere.
Shrub to 0.9 m high, hairy. Leaves opposite each other or in whorls of 3, 1–4 cm long, 2–5 mm wide, pale green, upper surface wrinkled, lower surface white woolly and often concealed by the rolled down margins, bases continuing down the stems. Flowers mauve, often with purple spots, 15–30 mm long, tubular, 2-lipped, 5-lobed, the lower lobe of the lower lip hairless inside. Stamens and style projecting beyond the flower tube. Flowers single at the bases of the leaves. Flowers chiefly spring.
