Dry forest and woodland. Ranges, tablelands, and ACT. Coastal north from Tuross Head.
Tree or shrub to 5 m high. Branches moderately angular, sharply ridged below the leaf scars, hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, scale-like, 0.1–0.3 cm long, appressed to slightly spreading, usually present on young branches, then shedding late. Flowers with 5 white or cream 'petals' each about 1 mm long. Flowers single; subtended by leaf-like bracts. Flowering: mainly late winter to summer. Fruit dark, initially fleshy, dry at maturity.
Occasional intermediates between Choretrum candollei and Choretrum pauciflorum are known.
