Forest. Coast and ranges north of Picton.
Palm-like shrub to 5 m high, sometimes sprawling. Fruit fleshy. Bark with horizontal scars. Leaves clustered at the top of the trunk, 15–50 cm long, 10–25 mm wide, many-nerved, the midrib slightly broader than the rest; stalks indistinct, only slightly narrower than the remainder of leaf. Flowers with 6 bluish or mauve to purplish 'petals' fused together at the base, outer 'petals' 4–8 mm long, inner ones 8–9.5 mm long. Flowers in branched clusters 20–40 cm long. Fruit purple to black, 10-15 mm in diameter.
