Moist grassy areas. Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, and the ACT.
Herb to 0.52 m high. The single flower stalk hairy, straw-coloured to crimson, the base of the plant purple. Leaves mainly basal. Basal leaves 5–25 cm long, 2–12 mm wide. Stem leaves alternating up the stems, 0.5–15 cm long, 1–10 mm wide, stem-clasping. upper surface of the leaves green, slightly sticky hairy or hairless; lower surface slightly sticky hairy, or hairy; margins finely woolly or hairy, tips hairless or with appressed woolly hairs. Compound heads orange, globular to hemispherical, 10–20 mm in diameter, with about 30–60 partial heads; partial heads with 5–10 florets with 0 petals. Flowering: summer.
Occasionally hybridizes with Craspedia aurantia and Craspedia jamesii.
Protected NSW.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
