Introduced perennial herb, prostrate or sprawling, with stems to 1 m long. Stems slightly fleshy, leaves fleshy. Leaves opposite each other, 2–6 cm long, 10–35 mm wide, margins toothed or entire, often tinged red, the leaves of each pair united at the base to form a ridge round the stem. Flowers white, or tinged pink or red, with 5 pointed petals each 4–10 mm long, shortly fused at the base. Flowers in clusters. Flowers Jun.–Sep.
