Dry forest, grassy areas, roadsides, and disturbed sites. Widespread.

Notes

Introduced annual, biennial, or short-lived perennial herb to 1.2 m tall. Stems sparsely rough-hairy to hairless, upper stems sticky. Basal leaves withering early, 5-25 cm long, 10-50 mm wide, hairless to hairy, margins toothed to lobed and toothed, tips more or less pointed. Stem leaves alternating up the stems, smaller, mostly narrow, stem-clasping with pointed basal lobes. Flower heads with many yellow 'petals' often with a pink or red stripe on the backs of the 'petals'. 'Petals' 5-9 mm long. Flower heads behind the 'petals' 5-6 mm in diameter, approximately bell-shaped. Flowers Summer to Autumn.
