Where found

Forest, woodland, disturbed areas, and in drainage lines and gullies. Widespread. Rarely coastal or in the ranges.

Notes

Perennial herb to 30 cm diameter. Flower stalk to 0.15 m long, woolly. Leaves basal, forming a rosette, 2–30 cm long, 20–100 mm wide, margins coarsely toothed to deeply dissected, upper surface dark green, sparsely hairy to nearly hairless, lower surface white and woolly. Flower heads with 10–20 yellow 'petals' 6–20 mm long, and yellow centres 7-30 mm in diameter. Flower heads below the ‘petals’ hemispherical. 'Seeds' 2.5–4.0 mm long, dark brown, straight or slightly curved, transversely wrinkled, hairless, inner face with 2 narrow ridges on either side of shallow central groove. Flowers throughout the year.
