Introduced biennial herb to 1.5 m tall. 'Seeds' with many straight spines. Stems rough, especially the primary stems, striate. Leaves with a carroty odour when rubbed, basal and alternating up the stems, to 28 cm long, rough, with a sheath at the base, compound, the lower leaves fern-like. Flowers in many-flowered clusters 4-10 cm in diameter. Individual flowers with 5 white, pink, or yellow petals, about 2.5 mm in diameter. Flowers most of the year.
