Forest and wet gullies. Coast and ranges. Occasionally on the eastern part of the tablelands.

Notes

Climber to 4 m high, or sometimes a small shrub, often flowering when quite small. Fruit fleshy. Young stems often rusty hairy, older stems usually hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, 5–25 cm long, mostly 10-60 mm wide, soft, upper surface dark green and somewht dull, lower surface paler and somewhat glossy, margins finely toothed or entire, tips pointed. Flowers greenish or white, turning pinkish to red, with 5 'petals' each 1.5-2 mm long. Flowers in interrupted spikes to 25 cm long or in loose branched clusters. Fruit red, almost round, 4-5 mm in diameter. Seeds black. Flowers most of the year.
