Roadsides, disturbed ground, and moist places. Kosciuszko National Park and west to Tumbarumba and the tablelands. Occasionally elsewhere.
Introduced annual or biennial herb to 0.6 m high. Stems hairy with short hairs, at least above. Leaves in a basal rosette and opposite each other on the stems, 2.5–6.5 cm long, 1–3 mm wide, keeled, hairy, margins smooth, stalkless and with a sheath at the base, tips pointed. Flowers rose-red, pale-dotted, with 5 toothed petals, with a long narrow stalk-like potion at the base, spreadng above, the spreading parts of the petals 4–5 mm long. Flowers in 2–10-flowered clusters. Flowering: October–January
