Dry forest, woodland, and heath. Coast and ranges north from the Budawang Range.
Shrub to 3 m tall. Stems covered in soft hairs. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.4-1.2 cm long, linear to narrow, usually spirally twisted, tips pointed and often curved, surfaces smooth or covered with minute warts, and hairless. Standard petal 5-12 mm long. Calyx hairless. Flowers pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, yellow to orange with red markings, in clusters of 1-9 flowers. Short to long flower stalks. Flowers most of the year.
In all species of Dillwynia, the standard petal is much broader than long.
