Forest, woodland, moist situations including near swamps and in gullies, and amongst rocks. Widespread.
Perennial herb to 0.6 m high, rhizomatous. Stems hairless. Lowest leaves in a flat rosette,roundto kidney shaped, 2–6 mm in diameter, usually withering early. Stem leaves alternating up the stems or in clusters, roundish with two pointed lobes, 0.3–1.9 cm long, 4–8 mm wide, peltate, covered with glandular hairs that trap insects. Flowers with 5 white or pink petals each 3–10 mm long. Sepals 5, hairles. Flowers in 2–14-flowered clusters 3–10 cm long. Flowering: winter to summer.
