Forest and near streams. Coastal north of Hornsby, Sydney area.
Tree to 40 m high. Fruit fleshy. Bark brown or greyish brown, smooth but becoming rough on older trees and scarred with small irregular craters. Buttressed. Young stems grooved, covered with straight, appressed, fawn hairs, becoming hairless. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 4–10 cm long, 20–50 mm wide, firm-textured, upper surface green and glossy, lower surface ashy-green and covered in short appressed hairs, or hairless, at first glaucous; domatia prominent in the vein angles along the midrib. Flowers creamy green, 4-5 mm in diameter, with 6 'petals'. Flowers in branched clusters shorter than the leaves. Fruit black or blue-black, oval to oblong, 15–25 mm long; ripe Mar.
