Garden escape from gardens and rockeries. Moist disturbed sites and along streams. Coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands, north of Nowra. Canberra. Occasionally elsewhere.
Introduced sprawling perennial herb to 0.4 m high, much-branched from the base. Rhizomatous. Stems more or less wiry. Leaves alternating up the stems. Lower leaves 1–6 cm long, 15–30 mm wide, 3-7 lobed or coarsely 3–5-toothed at the tips; grading to the upper leaves 0.5–2.5 cm long, 1–5 mm wide, margins entire, often with a hardened tip. Flower heads with many petals in several rows, pale purple, turning white and finally pink or red; each 3-10 cm long, and yellow centres 8-15 mm in diameter with many florets. Flower heads below the 'petals' approximately hemispherical. Flowering: Oct.–Feb.
