Where found

Forest, woodland, heath, and coastal headlands and dunes. South of Pambula. Coast, ranges, and tablelands.

Notes

Tree to 40 m tall, sometimes a multi-stemmed shrub on exposed sites.  Bark rough on all but the smallest branches, stringy, grey to brown-grey.  Juvenile stems rounded in cross section, rough at first.  Juvenile leaves opposite each other for a few pairs, stalkless to shortly stalked, 2.5-10.5 cm long, 13-75 mm wide, glossy green, the first few leaves rough, upper leaves smooth.  Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 6–15 cm long, 15-55 mm wide, glossy green.  Flowers white, with 0 petals.  Flower clusters 7-15 flowered.  Mature flower buds 5-10 mm long, caps shorter than the base.  Flowers winter-summer.  Gumnuts 6-18 mm in diameter. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have protruding valves or valves that are not very noticeable.
