Notes

Mallee or tree to 12 m tall. Bark rough on the lower part of the stems, smooth above, or smooth throughout. Rough bark flaky or tessellated (box-type), grey or grey-brown. Smooth bark shedding in long ribbons, rarely powdery. Juvenile stem rounded in cross section. Juvenile leaves opposite each other for 2 or 3 pairs, then alternating up the stems, 5.5–14 cm long, 22–70 mm wide, dull, blue-green or grey-green. Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 4.8-12 cm long, 8-25 mm wide, usually dull, blue-green to grey-green or almost grey, or maturing glossy green. Flowers white, with 0 petals. Mature flower buds 5–11 mm long, caps much shorter than the base. Flower clusters 3-7 flowered  Flowers most of the year. Gumnuts 5–8 mm in diameter, sometimes slightly ribbed longitudinally. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have valves that are not very noticeable.
