Where found

Forest, woodland, and heath. North from near Bargo. Southern Highlands, Blue Mountains, and the Sydney area.

Notes

Tree to 30 m tall, rarely a mallee.  Bark rough on all but the smallest branches, fibrous, brown-grey, fissured longitudinally, forming broad flat strips.  Juvenile stems square in cross section.  Juvenile leaves opposite each other for about 4–7 pairs then alternating up the stems, 7–13 cm long, 18–45 mm wide, dull, green.  Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 7–19 cm long, 15–33 mm wide, glossy, green, upper and lower surfaces different colours.  Flowers white, with 0 petals. Flower clusters 7-11 flowered.  Mature flower buds 8-12  mm long, caps as long as the base.  Flowers spring.  Gumnuts 7-10 mm in diameter. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have strongly protruding valves

Intergrading populations with Eucalyptus resinifera occur in the area between Colo Heights and Dural (Central Coast). These have been known as Eucalyptus sp. Cattai and Eucalyptus sp. Cattai (Gregson s.n., 28 Aug. 1954).
