Woodland on steep slopes and rocky hill tops. Deua and Wadbilliga National Parks and nearby.
Tree to 25 m tall. Bark rough on the lower trunk, shortly fibrous, compacted, with shallow fissures, grey or grey-black. Smooth bark shedding in ribbons, usually with scribbles. Branchlets glaucous. Juvenile stems cylindrical, glaucous. Juvenile leaves opposite each other for about 3 pairs, then alternating up the stems, to 18 cm long, 60 mm wide, dull, green to grey-green or glaucous. Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 9-19.5 cm long, 10-30 mm wide, glossy, green. Flowers white, with 0 petals. Flower clusters 11-20+ flowered. Mature flower buds 4–6 mm long, caps shorter than the base. The outer ring of stamens does not produce pollen. Flowers Spring-Summer. Gumnuts 6-12 mm in diameter. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have valves that are not very noticeable.
